10. Make a commitment to better overall health. You have to want to get healthy or no diet or exercise program will work. You must believe you can do it. And you have to realize that the alternative of staying at an unhealthy weight can have serious consequences to your life.

3. Skip dessert. It’s hard to resist that cheesecake or piece of cherry pie alamode, but you need to remember that desserts are high in calories and don’t have much nutritional value. Trade that cheesecake for low-fat yogurt. You can add fresh fruit to it for a special treat.

2. Exercise regularly. Plan and follow an exercise regime that you will enjoy. Walking – either around the block or on a treadmill. Aerobics – at the gym or with a home video. Circuit training -at the gym or invest in home fitness equipment (a good investment). Weight training – pump some iron at the gym or in your own home gym. Swimming – at the YMCA or in your own backyard. Whatever you decide to do – stick with it – exercise is an important key to successful weight loss.
